Graham Healey, a member of the original BETS (British English Teachers Scheme) selection committee from 1978 to 1987 and then of the JET Programme selection board from 1987 to 2002 has been asked by Sir Hugh Cortazzi to contribute a chapter on the JET Programme to the tenth volume in the series Britain and Japan: Biographical Portraits.
The chapter will be divided into three parts: (i) a (very brief) outline of the JET Programme (ii) a sort of ‘collective biography’ of the British participants and (iii) a small number of ‘case studies’of individual JET participants. For this purpose, he would like to collect, from as many former JETs as possible, two types of information:
First, straightforward factual/statistical info– name, age, when you were on the programme, where you were employed, and so on
Second, your motives for joining JET, what you feel you achieved as a JET, how the experience of working in Japan affected you personally, how your experience in Japan influenced your life and career after JET, and so on.
If you are interested in being involved with this, please fill in and return to the questionnaire that you can download below and return to Graeme at the e-mail address given.
