Hiten Vaghmaria 09 Feb 2010 11:05	Well, sadly no one had any tips for me (sniff!), but for anyone else reading this: Make sure you inform the tax office that you're leaving the country before going to Japan If you return after 1 year you'll probably have to do a self-assessment, which can be completed online or on paper. I did it online, which wasn't too much of an ordeal, but did take a little bit of figuring out. You may or may not have to pay some UK tax on your earnings, but you can claim for tax relief on the taxes you paid in Japan. If you return after more than 1 year then you probably won't be liable for UK tax - you'll have to liaise with the Tax Office for further details.
