Hi, I just stumbled on this website. Some profiles say they're an ex ALT, ex CIR, ex BET. I'm wondering what do these abbreviations stand for? Thanks, Phil |

I'm personally not sure what a BET is (anyone?) but ALT stands for Assistant Language Teacher and CIR is Coordinator of International Relations. More info here: http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/JET/jobs2010.html |

I think BET stands for British English teachers. |

The Americans were on a programme called MEF (Monbusho English Fellows). Can't remember what the Australian programme was called, but there was one. I don't recall teachers from other countries on any formal programmes. nb The UK programme was originally called the Wolfers Scheme when it started in 1978. |
