JETAA at the Doki Doki Festival [entry-title permalink="0"]

20151107_164559[1]On a blustery November morning we arrived at the Sugden sports centre in Manchester to set up our JETAA stall at the Doki Doki festival, a festival which celebrates both traditional and modern Japanese culture.  Our spot was right in the heart of the entertainment and helped us forget how chilly it was outside. There was everything from Taiko drumming to performances on the koto, dressing up in kimono to five minute manga sketch competitions.  The main focus though was on the cosplay outfits. There was an enormous range on show which certainly kept all the stall holders entertained!

We had a number of visitors enquiring about Japan, the JET program and JETAA: families who had travelled there recently and had fallen in love with the country, groups of students dressed spectacularly in Cosplay outfits and linguists who were currently studying, or who had studied, Japanese.  On display, the photos of our JET days really helped with interaction and provided a lot of interest and questions about both the JET programme and JETAA UK.
We would love to hear from any JET returnees interested in becoming involved with JETAA, helping strengthen cross cultural relations between the UK and Japan through events like this and many others.
