Following the recent devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan, the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation is trying in every possible way to help the Japanese people in their time of need. Our deepest sympathy goes out to all our friends and contacts there.
The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation is now giving priority to any appropriate applications for relief-based projects. If any of your fundraising events require funding to get them off the ground, you might be able to apply. There is more information on the GBSF website
The CEO of the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, Stephen McEnally, also gave the following message:
“If people you know are unsure about which Fund to make general donations to, then please encourage them to donate to the The Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund. It will channel all donations received to the work of voluntary and community organisations (NPOs) working in the most affected prefectures. Grassroots organisations, working with their local stakeholders, are best equipped to deliver long-term support through activities for which they themselves identify the need. The Japan Society will work with representatives and support networks of local NPOs.
The GBSF has given a substantial donation to both the The Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund and to the Nippon Foundation Relief Fund in Japan, which is also working directly with NPOs.”
