Chapter Roundup: Midlands

Highlights from 2016

Last year, JETAA Midlands held two professional events.

The first was a seminar on how Japanese companies in the east Midlands are contributing to sustainability in the UK. It was held at Nottingham Trent University, supported by Toyota Manufacturing UK and organised by Sarah Parsons, chair of JETAA UK, who lives in the Midlands and is an associate lecturer at the university.

The second was the first JETAA Academic Special Interest Group Conference, hosted by the University of Sheffield.

JETAA Midlands also held a pre-departure meet up for JETs bound for Japan, as well as an AGM in Nottingham. Chapter members met up with members of the Leicester Japan Club along with some local Japanese families.

Kicking off the new year

We are holding a Shinnenkai on 28th January at Ebi Sushi in Derby: the best sushi restaurant in the UK according to Toyota employees. If you are interested in attending, please email chairman@jetaa.org.uk

The Midlands covers a large area. Since most of our active members are in the East Midlands, this is where most of our events happen but, if anyone living in Birmingham wishes to organise a meet-up or knows of any Japan-related events in the area, please let us know on midlandschair@jetaa.org.uk  or post to the JETAA UK Facebook page and we will try to help you organise it.
