Chapter Roundup: Scotland

Hello from the Scotland Chapter!

After some great activities in the 2016–17 JET year (including introducing Japanese culture to primary school students, a well-received Japanese language weekend retreat, and some wonderful social events), we’re currently planning and organising our activities for the next 12 months.

We’ve already run a social night on Friday 17th March in the form of dinner at a relatively new Japanese restaurant called Kenji Sushi (42 St. Stephen St, Edinburgh).  Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, and would recommend it, though it is busy so you’ll probably want to make a reservation if you want to go.

We followed the dinner with karaoke at our usual location (Supercube, 58a George Street). It was nice to see some members who don’t always get a chance to come out with us.

We’re doing what we can, but we’d love to welcome more members to events (and if you’re willing to organise or host something, even better!). We’d love to see more meetups outside of Edinburgh, too! If anyone wishes to get involved or find out more about what we’re planning, please contact me: ScotlandChair@Jetaa.org.uk.

Of particular interest is perhaps our event for soon-to-be JET participants before they depart for Japan. Please mark your calendars!

Pre-departure BBQ (all new/ex JETs welcome)

Date/time: Sunday 2nd July, 2017; 1pm until the food runs out

Location: We’ll be in in the park off Bruntsfield Place, Edinburgh.

Please do come along and socialise, have a burger and rice ball, and enjoy the beautiful Scottish summer weather! Rain or shine we will meet (though we might move indoors if the weather is too bad, so make sure to register your interest so we can let you know of any changes to our plans).

Hope to see you soon!
