Exhibitors from a wide range of fields will be in attendance to help you with queries of jobs, post-grad study and keeping in touch with Japan – (TBC) Deloitte LLP, Local Government Association National Graduate Development Programme, Japan Society, Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, Teach First, Into Japan Holidays, People First Recruitment, Japan Foundation, Toshiba and others to be announced!

CV Clinics

We have three experts from Reading University Career’s Service available to check CVs and answer your questions about how to promote yourself on paper.

JETAA UK supports our members to help them use their Japan experience professionally and stay in touch with Japan. We have asked alumni from various industries and backgrounds to come and offer advice on the post-JET experience in our Careers Forum. As well as giving you the chance to network and make valuable connections, we hope it helps all newly-returned JET alumni to adjust back to life in the UK, get more insight into the job market in the UK and begin leveraging your JET experience to advance personally and professionally.  JETs who have been back a while are also welcome to join subject to spaces being available.

Spaces are limited and attendance must be confirmed by emailing treasurer@jetaa.org.uk, including the following details:

Full name, whether your role was ALT/CIR/SEA, where in Japan you were employed (name of municipal or prefectural Board of Education) AND JET number (if known)

15:00-15:30 Panel Discussion II: Working for Japanese Companies- Opportunities and Realities: how much Japanese do you need, how do you get an interview, promotions, what other parts of JET experience do you use, what graduate programmes are available?

16:00-16:30 Panel Discussion III: Using JET skills in other jobs: Skills needed from JET working for FCO, Travel Industry, Deloitte, Japan Society and Higher Education

Breakout Sessions

These will be more informal discussions with a chance for you to ask more questions.

  1. Postgraduate Study and Research: Learn about the opportunities available when carrying on your studies, whether in Japanese or other topics.
  2. Working for Japanese Companies: have a chance to speak to JETs who are working for Japanese companies in London about the realities
  3. Starting Up Your Own Business: speak to JETs about how you can use your experience to set up your own business in the UK, whether it is consultation, ramen restaurants or xxx.
  4. Marketing Your JET Skills in non-Japan related Careers: talk to JETs who no longer work in Japan-related fields about how to choose a career path and which skills you can and should leverage in the application process.
  5. Working for the FCO: get a fascinating insight into the skills needed to enter the FCO and learn more about the career path of FCO people who have used their Japan experience directly in their roles.
  6. Teaching in the UK: Find out about support available if you wish to continue into the teaching field.
