Summer Matsuri in Liverpool Festival Gardens
On August 20th, JETAA North West organised a mini matsuri to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the JET programme.
As well as JETAA NW, we invited members of Japan Society North West and local Japanese families and friends. The turnout was pretty good.
The matsuri was held in the Japanese garden of Festival Gardens in Liverpool.
When people arrived, they had the chance to try on yukata so we really got into the festival spirit.
Everyone was asked to contribute some food and so we were treated to homemade yakisoba, takoyaki, chirashizushi, omusubi, gomaae, edamame, teriyaki salmon, spicy chicken, choco-bananas, and much more. We of course indulged in some Asahi too!
After the picnic, there was storytelling and activities for the children.
There was also yoga for all those who wanted to try it (easier said than done when in yukata!). We finished the festival with Doraemon bon odori.
It was all such great fun and I was pleased to see so many people getting absorbed in Japanese culture with big smiles on their faces. I’d like to thank everyone who attended and made this event such a success.
We have a huge list of ideas for JETAA NW so keep an eye out for our upcoming events and we will look forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for reading this update. I hope you’re all well.
Kind regards,
Corrina Ellis, North West Chapter Chair
