JETAA Europe Reps Meet in Dublin

JETAA chapters from Europe got a céad míle fáilte (hundred thousand welcomes) in Dublin in September 2016, while exchanging experiences and views over lunch with Mari Miyoshi, ambassador of Japan to Ireland, in her residency. In attendance were JET alumni from Ireland, France, Germany and the UK.

Among the topics discussed were methods of holding events, recruiting volunteers and sourcing funding and membership fees. Also addressed was how to share cross-border information about Japan-related employment opportunities for European chapter members (particularly as Brexit is on the horizon). Also considered were ideas concerning social media, websites and communicating with alumni.

The event was the first Europe meeting since 2008. It also marked the first time German alumni were represented since the establishment of the German chapter and adoption of the official chapter bylaws, all supported by funding from CLAIR.

Our many thanks go to Ambassador Miyoshi for the kind invitation to lunch at her residency, as well as to Sinéad Silva, chair of JETAA Ireland, for making arrangements for hotels and meeting rooms and organising some proper Irish craic for our night out in Dublin.
