North East

The North East chapter covers all areas of the North East of the UK and has close ties with the Scotland Chapter. Newcastle is the focus area for most in person events, but we have plans to branch out further afield in the future. We are always looking for people to get involved with events, ideas and networking - so get in touch if you’d like know more about what the committee does!

Regular Events

Monthly online zoom meetings, the last Thursday of the month. These online events were born from the pandemic, but we hope to continue them in the future. They are an informal way to meet and socialise with members and we hold small craft based activities based on Japanese Traditional arts.

Naomi Crosbie-Iwasaki

ALT, Kochi, 2008 - 2011

I expected to go to Japan for one year contract and be back in Dublin building a career in whatever it was I was going to do when I grew up, JET changed all that. 3 years up in the mountains of Shikoku had a profound impact on me.

Since then, I’ve found a career I love completely different to my area of study, lived in 4 different countries and am still in contact with some life-long JET friends.

JET was meant to be a year out. Nearly two decades on, it’s still a part of how I live and work.

ALT, Kyoto Prefecture,

I’m Seb, North East Treasurer. I spent 2 wonderful years in a small town in northern Kyoto prefecture from 2017-2019. I now help to run the North East Chapter for JETAA, keeping the links to Japan alive through our cultural events and monthly Japanese classes.
