Chevaughn Whyte

Chevaughn Whyte was a JET in Takayama, Gifu during 2017-202, and also served as RPA for Takayama 2018-2020.

In today’s edition of the JETAA Spotlight Series, we explore the inspiring journey of an alumnus who embodies the spirit of cultural exchange and lifelong learning. These features aim to celebrate the diverse achievements and societal impacts made by JET alumni around the world.

Living in the beautiful mountains of Hida, I really enjoyed anything that has to do with being outdoors, which includes: hiking, chasing waterfalls and swimming in random rivers of the inaka. And my favourite part of being an ALT was the relationship of trust and kindness I received from working with the students and teachers.

After JET, I continued my world travels by moving to France for 2 years to complete a MSc Environmental Hazards and Risks Management in Nice and now I live and work in Malta as a Projects Officer for the Climate Action Authority.

JET has taught me a lot when it comes to bridging cultural barriers through the skillsets of International Relations and I'm forever grateful for such an amazing experience in Japan.

JET alumni truly have an international impact - it’s inspiring to see how many participants go on to such varied, global and impactful careers utilising the skills and experiences we’ve learned.
