Eileen O’Rourke

Eileen O'Rourke has been on the JET Programme twice. The first was in Maebashi, Gunma, 1990-91, and the second, thirty four years later, in Iga, Mie Prefecture, 2024-25.

In Maebashi, I taught English to a group of young adults at a local evening school. We always kept in touch and finally had a reunion in 2023 when I returned to Japan on holiday. They encouraged me to apply for the JET Programme again, to teach their grandchildren.

If it wasn't for these wonderful friends, I probably wouldn't have gone for it. The friendships you make while you're on the programme truly last a lifetime.
